The Boy Who Could Not Read
One day on a cold windy morning, there was a boy named Mike. Mike was 14 in the sixth grade. He loved to play basketball with his friends after school in the park. His best friends’ names are John and Greg. They would meet each other by the park every other day at 4:00 but they had to be home before dark. Then they would call each other on the phone to help each other with their schoolwork. Then they would get up bright and early to get ready for school and then they would meet up at the corner of 131st. They waited for the bus to come so they can go to school. They arrived at New Price Middle School. Mike walked into the door for reading. The teacher said, “Sit and stop playing.” They had 45 minutes in each class. After 45 minutes, class was over. It was time for recess and everyone left except Mike. The teacher asked, “What do you want Mike?” “I need help,” Mike said. “With what?” She said. “Reading,” Mike said. She said, “It might take five months.” After five months, Mike was reading on the sixth grade level. Then Mike thanked his teacher for all of her help.
